The Scotch-Brite® Coating Removal Disc features an extra coarse silicon carbide abrasive for effectively removing paint and rust from metal surfaces and welds. Combined with the malleable non-woven material, the silicon carbide abrasives remove the coating without gouging, degrading, or damaging the base material, especially on hard surfaces.
The open structure material does not overheat and resists loading, allowing the abrasives to continue cutting actively to achieve consistent results throughout the product’s lifespan. The Scotch-Brite® Coating Removal Disc covers a larger surface area than wire brushes. It is also safer as it does not have wires that can break off, and the hook-and-loop backing keeps it securely in place during use. Additionally, the fast-adjusting and removal Roloc™ TR 3M® feature enables quick and easy disc changes when performing multi-step finishing processes.
Our Coating Removal Disc uses a silicon carbide abrasive. Silicon carbide is a synthetic mineral that is very sharp and commonly used for low-pressure applications such as paint preparation. Although it wears down faster than aluminum oxide, it produces a superior finish. Scotch-Brite® industrial abrasives are a unique product for surface conditioning, with abrasives incorporated into non-woven nylon fibers or other synthetic fibers. The combination of abrasives in the fibers creates an abrasive system that provides consistent results throughout the product’s life. The open structure material is resistant to loading and keeps the abrasive minerals cutting at high performance by limiting fiber clogging.
The 3M® Roloc™ TR quick-change discs are smaller and have a threaded plastic screw or button that easily and securely attaches to the Roloc™ TR disc pad (sold separately), allowing for convenient disc changes with a simple twist-on and twist-off action. The Roloc TR system provides a secure attachment for high-impact applications, and the variety of available Roloc discs allows for quick transitions between different applications. Additionally, each TR fastener button is color-coded to identify its grade, making it easier to select the required grade for various applications.
