The Scotch-Brite® Coating Removal Disc features an extra coarse silicon carbide abrasive for effectively removing paint and rust from metal surfaces and welds. Along with the malleable non-woven material, the silicon carbide abrasives remove coatings without gouging, degrading, or damaging the base material, especially on hard surfaces.
The open structure material does not overheat and resists loading, allowing the abrasives to continue cutting actively to achieve consistent results throughout the product’s life. The Scotch-Brite® Coating Removal Disc covers a larger surface area than wire brushes. It is also safer, as it does not have wires that can break off, and the hook-and-loop backing keeps it securely in place during use. Additionally, the quick adjustment and removal feature of the Roloc™ TR 3M® allows for fast and easy disc changes when performing multi-step finishing processes.
Our Coating Removal Disc uses a silicon carbide abrasive. Silicon carbide is a sharp synthetic mineral commonly used for low-pressure applications such as paint preparation. Although it wears out faster than aluminum oxide, it provides a superior finish. Scotch-Brite® industrial abrasives are a unique product for surface conditioning, incorporating abrasives into non-woven nylon fibers or other synthetic fibers. The combination of abrasives in the fibers creates an abrasive system that delivers consistent results throughout the product’s life. The open structure material is resistant to loading and keeps the abrasive minerals cutting at high performance by limiting fiber clogging.
The 3M® Roloc™ TR quick-change discs are smaller and feature a threaded plastic screw or button that easily and securely attaches to the Roloc™ TR disc pad (sold separately), allowing for convenient disc changes with a simple twist-on and twist-off action. The Roloc TR system provides a secure connection for high-impact applications, and the variety of available Roloc discs allows for quick transitions between applications. Additionally, each TR fastener button is color-coded to identify its grade, making it easier to select the required grade for different applications.
