What Are Instant Adhesives?

Instant adhesives are cyanoacrylate-based formulations that create strong, fast-acting bonds used in both industrial and household applications. These adhesives are generally acrylic resins that polymerize rapidly in the presence of moisture, forming long, robust chains that bond surfaces together.

Cyanoacrylate adhesives should be applied in measured amounts, with pressure held on the bond for a few seconds to ensure the reaction progresses quickly and a strong bond forms in a reasonable time.

3M instant adhesives are applied directly from the container and quickly reach handling strength at room temperature. Commonly known as super glue, a single drop per square inch can bond various plastics, rubbers, metals, wood, and more. In 2012, a 3M instant adhesive set a Guinness World Record as the strongest glue by lifting an 8.1-metric-ton forklift into the air for one hour.
