Liquid Screw Fastening Adhesive

The 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ TL42 liquid adhesive for screw locking provides resistance to vibration, corrosion, and impact for assembled fasteners. Our medium-strength anaerobic adhesive, with high torque resistance, is dispensed as a medium-viscosity product using a one-part system. This anaerobic adhesive with a long open time cures quickly in the absence of air when parts are assembled.

Prevents nuts and bolts from loosening due to vibration
Our 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ TL42 liquid adhesive hardens and seals threaded assemblies to resist vibration and prevent loosening or leaking of secured fasteners. Applying this adhesive to fasteners before tightening eliminates moisture and prevents corrosion. The application is quick and easy with a simple squeeze of the bottle. The anaerobic formulation starts curing rapidly, forming a polymer that seals, secures, and holds. An activator can be used for even faster curing or in larger gaps. The medium-strength adhesive can be loosened when necessary using common hand tools.

Eliminates the need for lock washers and other locking components
Our 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ TL42 liquid adhesive is effective for locking threaded assemblies, providing vibration resistance, sealing, and bonding. Useful applications include machine tool access bolts, hydraulic system bolts, gearbox or camshaft bolts, bearing head cover screws, countersunk screws, and conveyor roller bolts.

What are anaerobic adhesives?
Anaerobic adhesives are formulated exclusively to cure in the absence of oxygen. The term “anaerobic” means “living without air,” and when oxygen is excluded, a chain chemical reaction begins, causing the adhesive to polymerize. Contact with metal accelerates the polymerization process and rapidly accelerates curing, forming a durable cross-linked plastic that provides aggressive adhesion with effective tear resistance.

More commonly known as thread lockers, pipe sealants, retaining compounds, and silicones, these adhesives are often used to enhance sealing or holding strength in the threads of joined fastening systems, such as nut and bolt assemblies. A nut and bolt set may have as little as 15% metal-to-metal contact, so even a small amount of anaerobic adhesive easily fills any air gaps between the threads. This adhesive then hardens into a thermoset plastic. These unique adhesives are easy to dispense, cure quickly, and provide effective torque strength while resisting temperature, vibration, and protecting against moisture and gases, offering corrosion protection.
