The 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Translucent Epoxy Adhesive is a two-part translucent epoxy system (orange when cured), offering flexibility and rapid set times. It performs well on a variety of substrates, including metals, ceramics, concrete, composites, wood, and various plastics. Upon curing, its final color ranges from yellow to orange.
When using a Duo-Pak (DP) adhesive, rely on 3M’s dispensing equipment for convenient, precise mixing, dosing, and application.
Strong and Permanent Bonding Under Vibration and Impact
The 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ DP110 Translucent Epoxy Adhesive is a versatile solution compatible with substrates like metals, concrete, composites, ceramics, plastics, and wood. Its low viscosity makes it easy to dispense and self-level, while also being effective for filleting and encapsulating. It offers high tear strength, along with excellent peel and impact resistance, combined with good flexibility, making it ideal for use in industries such as transportation, specialty vehicles, electronics, general manufacturing, sports equipment, construction, and consumer goods.
Recommended Applications
- General bonding across a variety of industries
- Replacement for 5-minute epoxy for improved performance and extended positioning time
- Handling strength achieved in approximately 20 minutes
Key Features
With a 1:1 mix ratio, the 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ DP110 epoxy adhesive is ideal for bulk mixing. A 10-minute work life provides ample time for repositioning, keeping projects on track. The adhesive reaches handling strength in about 20 minutes and fully cures in 48 hours at 22°C (72°F). Its final color ranges from yellow to orange after curing.
What Are Epoxy Adhesives?
Epoxy adhesives are part of the “structural adhesives” category, which includes polyurethane, acrylic, cyanoacrylate, and others. These adhesives are formulated as reactive liquid polymers that undergo a chemical reaction upon mixing, curing into a solid plastic material. Once the two parts are mixed in the specified ratio, the curing process begins, offering a limited work life during which the adhesive can be applied, and substrates can be positioned. This work life varies from minutes to several hours depending on the formulation.
Structural adhesives like epoxies provide high shear and peel strength, excellent resistance to heat and chemicals, and superior performance in harsh environments compared to common adhesives.
Epoxy adhesives (often called epoxy glue) are widely used in building and home construction, aerospace, automotive manufacturing, bicycle assembly, boat building, sports equipment (like golf clubs, skis, and snowboards), and many household and industrial applications. They are ideal wherever high-strength bonds and resistance to weather conditions are required.
Epoxy adhesives are valued for their ease of use, mechanical strength, and chemical resistance. Formulations can be customized to meet specific needs, from bonding flexible plastics to rigid metals, producing clear or opaque finishes, and offering fast or slow curing. This versatility makes epoxy adhesives suitable for bonding materials such as wood, metal, glass, stone, and a wide variety of plastics.
