Epoxy Adhesive 2086 Gray

3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive 2086 is an exceptionally high strength heat curing epoxy that provides higher impact, peel and bond strength than normally attainable with epoxy based adhesives. The paste viscosity of this adhesive allows use on vertical surfaces without run-off during the cure cycle.

Compare
  • Exceptionally high strength properties at service temperatures from -70ºF to 200ºF (-56ºC to 93ºC)
  • Higher impact, peel, and bond strength properties than normally attainable with epoxy based adhesives
  • Paste viscosity allows the use on vertical surfaces without run-off
  • No volatile by-products given off during cure
  • Easy application by knife coating, trowel, pump and high pressure injection methods

High Peel and Shear Strength Maintains Lasting Bond
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive 2086 provides good adhesion to steel, making it an ideal choice to replace mechanical fasteners, screws, rivets and spot welds. With exceptionally high strength properties at service temperatures from -70°F to 200°F (-56°C to 93°C) and no volatile by-products emitted during cure, this very high viscosity adhesive It can be applied by a spatula, knife coat, notched trowel, or by extruding into place.

Recommended Applications

  • Small joint assembly
  • Heavy-duty mounting assembly
  • Metalworking
  • Carbon fiber epoxy bonding
  • 60 Minute Work Life Provides Time for Positioning and Adjustment

3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive 2086 (PDF, 25 Kb) features a very high viscosity that allows for easy, controlled dispensing that won’t drip, sag or migrate on vertical surfaces. It then dries to an off-white color. The mix ratio is 2:1 and provides a 60 minute work life to allow plenty of time to adjust fit prior to setting. The adhesive reaches handling strength in approximately 4 hours and is fully cured in 48 hours.

Understanding Epoxy Adhesives
Epoxy adhesives are part of the class of adhesives called “structural adhesives,” which include polyurethane, acrylic, cyanoacrylate and others. One-part heat cured epoxies are rigid adhesives that have outstanding strength when measured at elevated temperatures. These adhesives require a thermal cure, typically around 250°-350°F (120°-180°C) for 40-60 minutes, to achieve full strength. They provide high shear and peel strengths, depending on the formula, and better heat and chemical resistance than other common adhesives.

Epoxy adhesive (often referred to as epoxy glue) is widely used in building and home construction; aircraft and automobile manufacturing; bicycle, boat, golf clubs, ski and snowboard assembly as well as a host of home use and other applications. It is used virtually anywhere high-strength bonds are needed along with resistance to environmental conditions. These adhesives are popular for their ease of use, mechanical strength and chemical resistance. Formulations can be created to make epoxy for plastic flexible or epoxy for metal rigid, epoxy resin transparent or opaque, quick setting or slow setting. The versatility with which these adhesives can be formulated helps meet almost any requirement for bonding wood, metal, glass, stone and various plastics.
